Client Management & Consolidation
Two tools for people who work across more than one company file:
- Client Management (Company → Client Management) is your practice list of client company files. Open a client's books from the list without hunting through folders.
- Multi-Company Consolidation (Reports → Consolidation) combines several company files into one set of balances, with elimination entries so intercompany amounts don't double-count.
Both menu items appear when Interface Mode is set to Accountant Mode (Settings → Appearance). You can also open either one from Search (Ctrl+K): type "Open Client Management" or "Open Consolidation".
Client Management
- Open Company → Client Management and click New Client.
- Enter the Client Name and pick the client's Company File with Browse.
- Optionally set Status (Active, On Hold, Inactive), Fiscal Year End, contact name, email and phone, and Notes.
- Click Add Client.
The list shows each client's contact, status, fiscal year end and when you last opened it. Search, or filter by status. Click Open on a row to open that company file; it uses the same sign-in as File → Open Company....
The client list is kept on this computer, not inside any company file.
Consolidation
- Open the company file that will hold the consolidation — usually the parent company.
- Open Reports → Consolidation. Under Groups, type a group name and click New.
- Under Member Companies, click New Member, browse to each company file, give it a name and an Ownership %, and click Add Member. Each member's balances are multiplied by its ownership percentage.
- Under Consolidated Report, pick a Start Date, End Date and Basis (Accrual or Cash), then click Generate Report. You'll see one column per company plus a Consolidated column, grouped by account category.
- To remove intercompany amounts, click New Elimination under Elimination Entries, enter a date and memo, and enter the lines. Click Record Elimination.
Things to know:
- Member files are read, never changed. Elimination entries live on the consolidation, not in any member file.
- Each member file must have been opened once in Solid Accounting on this computer, so its encryption key is available. If a member can't be read, open it once and generate the report again.
- Elimination lines are currently entered as a JSON list of
account_number,debit_centsandcredit_cents(whole cents; debits must equal credits). Account numbers must match the ones shown in the report. - Creating groups, adding members and recording eliminations needs an Admin user.
What it needs
- Client Management: Accountant tier.
- Consolidation: Professional or Accountant tier.
- Neither needs Updates & Cloud Services; both work entirely on this computer.
