Account & Billing
Solid Accounting's commercial model is intentionally simple: you buy the software once for a fixed price; an optional yearly Updates plan keeps you on the latest version with new features and support; some add-ons (Bank Feeds, additional users) bill separately.
This section covers the operational details — what each charge is for, when you renew, how add-on users work, and how refunds happen.
The pieces
| What | When you pay | What it gets you |
|---|---|---|
| License | Once, at purchase | Perpetual license to the version you bought; works forever |
| Updates plan | Year 1 included; Year 2+ optional | New features, bug fixes, OS-compat updates, third-party integrations, Cloud Backup, support |
| Add-on users | Once, per user | Adds a seat beyond your tier's included count — $100 each, one-time |
| Bank Feeds | Monthly or annual | Plaid-powered automated bank/CC sync — $8/mo or $79/yr for 2 connections |
There is no "Solid Accounting subscription." Your license is permanent. Updates plans, add-on users, and Bank Feeds are independent line items, each optional.
What's in this section

- Renewal & maintenance — when the Updates plan renews, what happens if it lapses, how to re-enroll
- Add-on users — adding more users than your tier includes, pricing, deactivating
- Refunds — 30-day money-back guarantee, partial refunds, prorated maintenance refunds
- Bank Feeds subscription — paying for Plaid connections, swapping connections, cancelling
What we don't charge for
To be explicit:
- Storage of your books — they live on your computer, free
- Number of transactions — no per-transaction or per-invoice fees
- Number of customers / vendors — no per-record fees
- Reports — every report is included in the base license
- Multi-user (within tier limits) — included up to your tier's user count
- Cloud Backup (storage) — the 10 GB included with an active Updates plan
- API access (Pro / Accountant tiers) — included; no per-call fees
- Data export — every report exports to PDF / CSV / TXF / IIF as applicable, included
- Migration — coming from QuickBooks, Xero, FreshBooks; the migration tools and OAuth integrations are included
- OS upgrades — when macOS / Windows / Linux ship new versions, we update Solid to support them at no extra charge (with active Updates plan)
The model is "buy once, use forever, pay annually if you want to stay current." That's the whole pitch.
Common patterns
A solo business owner, monthly bookkeeper
Standard tier ($349 once). They use Solid for their own books; their bookkeeper logs in occasionally to do data entry. Two users — within Standard's limit. Bank Feeds for the operating account ($8/mo). Updates plan optional from year 2; they typically renew because the cost is small relative to the bookkeeper's time saved by new features.
A small office (5 people, 1 bookkeeper)
Pro tier ($499 once). Bookkeeper is the primary user; owner, two managers, and an assistant connect occasionally. 5 users — at Pro's limit. No add-on users needed yet. Bank Feeds for two accounts ($8/mo). Updates plan typically renewed because the integration features (Payroll API, Ecommerce Hub) are worth the $199.
A bookkeeping firm with 12 clients
Accountant tier ($699 once). The firm uses one Solid Accountant license to manage all clients via the Client Switcher. Each client file is its own .solid file with its own backups. The firm pays the $249 Updates plan; clients don't need their own licenses unless they want hands-on access to their own file (then it's a separate Solid license per client, billed to the client).
A growing business outgrowing Standard
Business has 4 users on a Standard tier (limit: 3). They add 1 add-on user for $100. Now 4 users on Standard. When they add a 5th and 6th, they evaluate: 3 add-on users at $300 vs. upgrading to Pro at $150 net (Pro is $499 vs Standard's $349 = $150). Pro becomes cheaper at the 6th user. They upgrade.
