Migrate from Wave
A direct Wave connection is not available in shipped builds. Solid Accounting has a sign-in importer for Wave under File → Import → Online Accounting Sync…, but builds don't include the connection keys it needs. The dialog says so ("This build does not ship OAuth keys") and asks for a developer Client ID and Secret, which normal customers don't have. Until that changes, use the file-based route on this page.
What works today
Wave doesn't give you a company file to take away, so the move is a cutover: start clean in Solid Accounting on a date you choose, carry your balances across, and bring in activity from that date on.
- Pick a cutover date. The end of a month, quarter, or year is easiest — ideally the end of your last filed tax year.
- Save reports from Wave as of that date: Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, Aged Receivables, and Aged Payables. Also export your customers, vendors, and products & services. Keep these as your record of the old books.
- Create your company in Solid Accounting (File → New Company…) and set up your chart of accounts to match the one in Wave.
- Enter opening balances with Company → Opening Balances…, using your Wave Trial Balance for the cutover date. Opening balances go on balance sheet accounts; income and expense accounts don't take them, and the year's profit so far lands in Opening Balance Equity. That's why a year-end cutover date is easiest.
- Add your customers, vendors, and items in Contacts and Items & Services. Re-enter open invoices and unpaid bills so you can receive and pay them in Solid Accounting.
- Import bank and credit-card activity after the cutover with File → Import → Import Transactions…. It reads CSV, OFX, QFX, and IIF files and PDF statements. Download these from your bank, or export your transactions from Wave to CSV.
- Check your work. Run Reports → Trial Balance in Solid Accounting for the cutover date and compare it with the Wave Trial Balance. Every balance sheet account should match.
Nothing on this route touches your Wave account. Download everything you want to keep before you close it.
Don't paste a Wave personal access token into Solid Accounting. The importer doesn't use one, and a full-access token is a password to your Wave books.
What doesn't come across
- Transaction history before the cutover. Your opening balances carry the totals; the saved Wave reports are your record of the detail.
- Payroll, receipts, recurring invoices, and custom report layouts. Recreate recurring schedules as recurring transactions.
