Refunds

Solid Accounting backs every license purchase with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If the software isn't right for you within 30 days of purchase, you get every dollar back — no forms, no friction.

This page covers the policy in detail and how to request one.

The 30-day money-back guarantee

ItemRefundable in 30 days
Initial license purchaseYes — full refund
Tier upgrade (Standard → Pro mid-cycle)The upgrade portion only
Add-on user purchaseYes within 30 days of the add-on purchase
Bank Feeds subscriptionProrated — see below
Updates plan renewal (Year 2+)Prorated — see below

The 30 days are calendar days from the purchase date. Charge dispute timelines are independent — credit-card chargebacks have their own windows but our policy doesn't require you to chargeback.

How to request a refund

Email support@solidaccounting.com with:

  • Your license key or purchase confirmation email
  • The email address the purchase was billed to
  • A brief reason — not required for the guarantee but helps us improve the product

Standard turnaround:

Refund typeProcessing time
Initial license, 30-day guarantee1–2 business days
Add-on user, 30-day guarantee1–2 business days
Updates plan, prorated3–5 business days
Bank Feeds, prorated3–5 business days

The refund returns to the original payment method. Credit cards typically post within 5–10 business days from when we initiate. Bank transfers (for invoice-billed customers) within 7–14 days.

What gets refunded

Initial license — full refund within 30 days

Buy Standard ($349) → 27 days later, request refund → $349 back. The license deactivates on all your machines; you uninstall Solid Accounting; the relationship ends cleanly.

After 30 days, the license is yours; we don't refund it.

Year 1 maintenance — included in the license refund

The Year 1 Updates plan is bundled into the license price. A 30-day refund of the license refunds the Year 1 plan along with it.

Year 2+ Updates plan — prorated

Year 2 and beyond are separate annual charges. If you cancel mid-cycle and want a refund:

  • Cancellation only, no refund — default. Your plan stays active through the cycle's end; nothing more is charged.
  • Prorated refund of unused months — available for specific reasons:
    • Your business is closing
    • Solid stopped working on your platform (we no longer support an OS you're stuck on)
    • Significant product issue we can't resolve

Prorated math: charges minus (months elapsed × monthly equivalent). Example: $199 Pro Updates plan, 4 months in → $199 × (8/12) = $132.67 refund.

Discretionary call by our support team — we lean toward refunding when there's a real issue, not when it's change-of-mind.

Add-on users — full refund within 30 days, then nothing

Bought 2 add-ons for $200 → realize you only needed 1 → email within 30 days, get $100 back.

After 30 days, add-ons aren't refundable. The seat is yours forever (until license termination).

Bank Feeds — prorated to the cancellation date

Bank Feeds bills monthly ($8/mo) or annually ($79/yr).

  • Monthly — cancel any time; you're charged for the current month, no refund of past months. Annual prorated refund N/A here (it's monthly).
  • Annual — cancel anytime; refund is (months remaining / 12) × annual price. Example: bought $79 annual, 7 months in → $79 × (5/12) = $32.92 refund.

Things that don't get refunded

  • Custom development work — if we built you a custom integration or module, that's by-the-hour billing, not refundable
  • Migration assistance (paid) — we don't typically charge for migration but if you bought premium hands-on help, that's billed time
  • License after 30 days — the license is yours; we don't buy it back
  • Updates plan after the cycle ends — once a year is consumed, that year isn't refundable
  • Money paid to third parties — Bank Feeds passes Plaid's per-connection fees through; if Plaid won't refund us, we can't refund you. Most cases work fine because we control the cancellation timing.

Refund and license termination

A full license refund terminates the license:

  • The activation token on every machine is voided
  • Solid Accounting on those machines stops launching (an "activation expired" message shows)
  • Your .solid file is unaffected — it's a file you own, encrypted with your password
  • You can't open the file in Solid Accounting without a valid license

If you need access to your file after refund:

  • The file format is documented; export to CSV via report generation before the refund processes
  • Or: open the file in another product that imports .solid files (none exist today; a future tool may)
  • Or: keep the working state of Solid Accounting on one machine indefinitely if you forgo the activation refresh — but the license-server check eventually catches this

For most refund cases, users are migrating away from Solid before the refund — they've exported their data, set up the new product, and don't need the file anymore.

Pre-launch (preview) refund policy

For users on the preview channel (pre-launch):

  • The 30-day guarantee starts at product launch, not at preview-purchase
  • If you bought at preview pricing and decide not to launch with us, full refund through 30 days post-launch
  • This is a one-time generous policy because preview-buyers took on risk we want to honor

Common gotchas

"I want a refund but can't access my purchase confirmation email." We can look you up by name, license key (if you have it), or charge-card last 4. Just email support — we'll figure it out.

"My credit card was charged but I never got a license." Auto-bot delivery occasionally falls behind. Email support; same-day resend.

"I refunded but Solid is still working on my old laptop." The activation server check happens periodically (typically every 2 weeks, or on a fresh launch). Solid keeps working between checks. The next check terminates it.

"I want to refund only my Updates plan, not my license." Possible — see Year 2+ prorated above. Cancellation alone (no refund) is also fine if you just want to opt out of next year's renewal.

"I bought, then immediately realized I bought the wrong tier." Email within an hour and we can either refund the original and let you re-purchase the right tier, or apply the original payment to the right tier. We're not going to charge you twice for a clear immediate fix.

"My partner bought it for me as a gift but it's not what I do." Standard 30-day guarantee applies. Mention it's a gift; we'll route the refund correctly.
